Turkey wanted to derogate from negotiations' essence: Vigen Sargsyan
01:11 / 10/11/2009
The reason for the Protocols' signing delay was the fact that Turkey
intended to use the wording that was out of the process essence, said
Vigen Sargsyan, Deputy Chief of Presidential Staff.
According to him, it was decided to refuse making final statements
under pressure of Armenian side and mediators' support.
`I suppose that one should see only those things in the Protocols
written on the paper. It is legal paper that foresees precise sequence
of steps and actions' schedule,' he underlined, adding that the
mobilization of professional efforts is needed to achieve the most
advantageous results for Armenia.
Earlier RA MFA Press Secretary Tigran Balayan explained the reason for
the delay ` the Turkish side's attempt to include a phrase in the
final statement, which was unacceptable for the Armenian side. `We
managed to thwart the attempts,' said Balayan. He did not go into
details concerning the wording. He pointed out that the sides decided
to refrain from any final statements.
Referring to diplomatic sources, Today's Zaman reported that the
Turkish side's statement on the signing results included a mention of
Nagorno-Karabakh. The Armenian side made a protest.
