S. Sargsyan: No alternative than relations without preconditions
`The establishment of relations with Turkey without any preconditions
has no alternatives' ,- the address of the RA President Serzh Sargsyan
directed to the Armenian people on the occasion of signing the
pre-signed protocols between Armenia and Turkey in Switzerland, in the
number of other massages, reads,- `It is the imperative need of
time. And this necessity is not the issue of difference of
opinions. The fears of some people and political forces are based on
different interpretations of some points of the protocols and on the
historic mistrust towards Turkey.
Evaluating these circumstances realistically, being sure in the
necessity and truthfulness of the undertaken steps I insist:
1. No relation with Turkey can put under doubt the reality that the
Armenians lost their fatherland and the fact of Armenian Genocide. It
is a well known fact and it should be recognized and condemned by the
progressive humanity. The sub-commission of the intergovernmental
commission is not yet a historic commission.
2. The issue of the Armenian and Turkish boarders is liable to solving
according to the international law. The protocols do not say anything
more than that.
3. These relations are not connected and can't be connected with the
NKR conflict settlement process, which is an independent and
self-dependent process. Armenia is not looking at the issue of the
territorial integrity and the inviolability of the boarders pointed in
the protocols as a reference to the Karabakh issue.
4. The delay of the ratification or the suggestion of new conditions
for the ratification of the protocols of Turkish side will face the
corresponding treatment from the Armenian side. By signing these
protocols Armenia is not taking any obligations and is not making any
affirmations. The signing of these protocols is aimed at establishing
normal relations between the two countries. So if Turkey does not
ratify these protocols within sensible
n future Armenia without any delay will take up corresponding steps
according to the international law.
Now addressing to you, dear friends, I highlight with a special
importance that today more than ever our nation needs
unification. This is the way of our future.
After sighing the protocols will start the stages of ratification and
implementation of them. All the concerns, possible dangers that have
been heard during the discussions will be considered and we should be
able to prevent any development that contradicts the national
aims. Today I am more than sure that we will be able. And we will do
it all together, with all Armenians. We are not the same as we were
months ago. It is a fact already.
I believe in the wisdom of our people. I believe that we will live a
peaceful country for our generations. I am sure it will come true.
God save us.
