EU External relations and European neighborhood policy commissioner
Benita Ferrero-Waldner welcomed Armenian-Turkish accord, aiming at
re-establishing diplomatic relations and opening the border between
two countries, Die Zeit reported.
"It is an opportunity to open new perspectives for peace and stability,
the solution of conflicts in the South Caucasus, notably in Nagorno
Karabakh. Actually, this is a historical decision," she said.
The EU will make efforts for the protocols to be validated and
implemented in accordance with the timetable, without preconditions,
the commissioner highlighted. Both countries may have economic profits
once the border is opened.
Remind that the Armenian-Turkish protocols were signed in Zurich
October 10 by the foreign ministers of the two countries.
