1.7 BILLION DRAMS TO BE ALLOCATED FROM STABILIZATION FUND FOR REHABILITATION OF 26 COMMUNITY ROADS IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 15, NOYAN TAPAN. At the October 15 sitting, the
Armenian government made a decision to allocate 1.7 billion drams from
the Stabilization Fund (established mainly with resources of Russia's
loan) for the rehabilitation of 26 community roads in Armenia. In
the words of Minister of Finance Tigran Davtian, the rehabilitation
of these roads was being done under the Millennium Challenge Program,
and the government has assumed an obligation to carry the project to
    its logical conclusion.

He said the Supervisory Service of the RA Ministry of Finance has
examined the condition of the roads and identified 12 community road
of primary importance. The minister underlined that repairs of the
roads must be completed until late 2008 in order to ensure the safety
    of traffic in the winter.

It is expected that the organizations which won the tenders will
    continue construction work.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said numerous violations related to
scattering of money have been revealed as a result of the checks
conducted by the Ministry of Finance. According to him, the ministry
will continue its checks so that construction work will be done
properly and the allocated money will not be wasted. "We pay a
high price: these are credit resources, moreover, expensive credit
resources. We must supervise this work, as it increases the state
budget's deficit. If we do not incur these expenses, the work already
done may be lost," T. Sargsyan said, adding: "We will finish this
work with 5, and not 6.8 billion drams".

By instruction of the prime minister, the RA minister of transport
and communication will personally control the construction work.
