    ARMENIAN GDP FALLS BY 18.3% IN JANUARY-SEPTEMBER 2009 ON SAME PERIOD OF 2008

    YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia's GDP fell by 18.3% in
    January-September 2009 on the same period of 2008 and amounted to
    2 trillion 123 billion 218 million drams. The index-deflator of GDP
    made 0.2%.

    According to the RA National Statistical Service, industrial production
    declined by 11.4% to 459bn 694.6m drams in January-September 2009 on
    the same months of last year.

    The gross agricultural output fell by 1.3% to 407bn 864.1m drams,
    construction volumes declined by 43.8% to 364bn 646.9m drams, retail
    trade grew by 0.8% to 697bn 636m drams, and services declined by 1.2%
    to 533bn 181.5m drams.

    The foreign trade of Armenia dropped by 30.7% as compared with
    January-September 2008 and amounted to 2bn 732.3m USD, with exports
    declining by 41.5% to 480.7m USD and imports falling by 27.9% to 2bn
    251.6m USD.

    Consumer prices rose by 2.9%, industrial production prices by 0.8%
    in January-September 2009 on the same period of 2008.

    The number of the officially registered unemployed increased by 10.3%
    and made 83.1 thousand in late September 2009 as compared with the
    same month of last year.

    The average monthly nominal salary amounted to 98,369 drams in
    January-September 2009 (12% growth as compared with January-September
    2008), including the average salary of 81,788 drams in the state sector
    (16.9% growth) and the average salary of 122,177 drams in the private
    sector (8.3% growth).

    The average exchange rate of one US dollar made 355.45 drams in
    January-September 2009.
