YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS: Azerbaijani media statement that
Armenian grand master Levon Aronyan refused to participate in the next
year's world chess tournament in Baku does not correspond to reality.
Azerbaijani APA news agency's statement says that is the reason why
during the regular congress in Calitea FIDE decided to divide the
tournament between two towns.
Representative of the Armenian Chess Federation Gagik Hovhannissyan
told Armenpress that the reality is presented by the Azerbaijani side
in completely other way. "First of all the tournament will take place
in a year and from the beginning it was clear that it will take place
in two different towns. One of the towns is known - it is Baku and
the second one is not yet decided and Aronyan is naturally included
among the chess players who will play in the second town. No issue
on refusing to take part in the tournament was forwarded and Levon
Aronyan did not refuse from anything," Hovhannissyan said.
