German Ambassador Welcomes Establishment of Armenian-Turkish Relations

The newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of
the Federal Republic of Germany in Armenia, Hans-Jochen Schmidt,
submitted his credentials to President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
yesterday.
Sargsyan said that strengthening relations with the Federal Republic
of Germany is very important for Armenia. In Sargsyan's words, Germany
is one of Armenia's most important trade partners, second only to the
U.S. in the volume of foreign assistance offered. He also said
numerous projects in the fields of technology and finance are
implemented jointly with Germany, and that Armenia and Germany
maintain high-level political dialogue and cooperation within the EU.
There are also active cultural contacts between the two countries.
Ambassador Schmidt stated that Germany will continue to actively and
purposefully support Armenia, and he will do his best in his role as
ambassador in developing Armenian-German cooperation.
Both sides exchanged ideas on possibilities of broadening bilateral
ties, as well as on issues related to the region. The German ambassaor
stated that Germany welcomes the initiative in establishing
Armenian-Turkish relations, considering it an important move for
strengthening security, stability, and cooperation in the Caucasus
region.
