UNIFICATION WITH ARMENIAN NOT DISCUSSED: NAGORNO-KARABAKH PRESIDENT QUOTED IN BERLINER ZEITUNG

Armenia
Nagorno-Karabakh wishes to become independent in every way. The
republic has a president, but not a single country in the world
recognizes the republic, writes German daily Berliner Zeitung
journalist Tobias Asmut, who visited Stepanakert. "Unification with our
Armenian brothers is not being discussed," Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh
President Bako Sahakyan stated after certain pause and added that
"After all, it's already several years that Nagorno-Karabakh has been
an independent state."
"The international community could look through its fingers at
Sahakyan's mania of greatness, if not but for one fact: the republic is
in one of the world's most explosive-dangerous regions, the Caucasus,"
the author of the article writes. Here the US, EU and Russia have
began a marathon for energy reserves, while people in the Caucasus
turn each others' lives into hell on earth.
According to some defense sector analysts, the next bomb, which will
be set off in the Caucasus region, could be Nagorno-Karabakh. The
people of Nagorno-Karabakh are not afraid of a war with Azerbaijan,
assures Nagorno-Karabakh Foreign Minister Georgy Petrosyan. He is
confident that the republic will definitely be recognized, but prefers
not to go into details in terms of timeframes.
"Everyday we undergo military exercises. The soldiers must be ready
at any minute," one of Stepanakert's military unit officers stated.
According to the latter, there is often an exchange of fire here on
the border though "conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh has been resolved,
Karabakh has won."
