Statement of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) regarding the
protocols leading to a normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations:
1. The normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations is in the best
interests of the two countries and their peoples and is in the best
interests of regional peace and security.
2. These protocols are a giant leap forward towards the establishment
of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey and mutual relations
in general.
3. The stipulation regarding the creation of an inter-governmental
panel of historians, which questions the reality of the Armenian
Genocide, is unacceptable.
4. Also raising concern is the condition that the parliaments of
the two countries must ratify the documents since it allows Serzh
Sargsyan to share responsibility of the creation of the sub-committee
with the RoA National Assembly while allowing Turkey to delay the
ratification process, arguing that the Karabakh conflict has yet
to be resolved, and thus postponing the opening of the Armenian
