Ankara, 1 September: Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu briefed
the cochairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group and Russian foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov,
about the progress recorded in Turkey-Armenia normalization process.
Davutoglu called Lavrov on the phone and asked him to boost efforts
to solve Azerbaijan-Armenia dispute to restore a comprehensive and
permanent peace and stability in Caucasus.
Earlier in the day, Davutoglu also called the OSCE Minsk Group
cochairman, Bernard Kouchner, on the phone and gave him information
about the two protocols which were initialled by Turkey and Armenia
on Monday.
A joint statement issued by Turkey, Armenia and Switzerland on Monday
[31 August] said that Turkey and Armenia agreed to start their internal
political consultations on the establishment of diplomatic ties and
development of bilateral relations.
The statement said internal political consultations over two protocols,
which had been agreed on under Swiss mediation, would be completed
within six weeks which would be followed by ratification at Turkish
and Armenian parliaments.
