PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA RECEIVES DELEGATION OF EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF ELECTORAL AUTHORITIES

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS: President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
received today delegation of European Association of Electoral
Authorities which is in Armenia on the occasion of the 18th annual
gathering of the Association held this year in Yerevan.
Presidential press service told Armenpress that the president greeted
members of the delegation, noting that the conduction of this event
in Yerevan is a good occasion for discussion of issues of electoral
system and exchange of positive electoral experience.
"The long but necessary way of democracy brought us today to a degree
of development of electoral system which gives an opportunity to
conduct free, fair elections. But what has been said does not mean
that we have an excellent electoral system. We have various issues and
we need to incessantly improve our electoral system," Serzh Sargsyan
said, highlighting the cooperation with international organizations.
The president was interested in the international experience of
formation of electoral commissions, spoke with them about issues
discussed at the gathering.
Representatives of the Association who are cooperating with Armenia
for many years, noted that the improvement of the electoral system
of Armenia is obvious and expressed readiness to continue support to
further democratization processes and improvement of electoral system.
