Perhaps the most apt expressions about the Armenian language and
in general about everything are made by the poet Yeghishe Charents
who noted the flexibility and the barbarism of our language. Any
example of speeches in Armenian shows either its flexibility or
its barbarism. From this point of view, the news conference of the
Armenian foreign minister on September 2 is worth mentioning. Edward
Nalbandyan was speaking about the Armenian-Turkish protocols, in
particular about the six-week period of internal consultations with
the help of which the sides have to create public-political grounds
in their countries to sign them.
"Crisis work is expected", stated Edward Nalbandyan. Charenst would
probably say which of the main characteristics of our language,
flexibility or barbarism, this statement shows. We may also say that
this statement does not speak about our language but about the current
political enterprise of our political thought including the camp of
language. The Armenian foreign minister is probably a supporter of
the modern Armenian.
Sure, the old language cannot correspond to the new thinking which the
government spreads like rain in the country and in the region. A new
language is needed for new thinking. Let even this language be a little
incomprehensible. Nothing happens. The thinking is not understandable
either. The day will come when it will be understood and evaluated.
In any case, Edward Nalbandyan confuses the words "painstaking" and
"crisis" (which in Armenian are similar) because in Armenian there
is "painstaking" work and not "crisis" work, or maybe the Armenian
foreign minister understands that the Armenian and Turkish relations,
especially the released protocols do not contain anything else but
only crisis preconditions and the situation of crisis in Armenia
during the upcoming six weeks will enhance.
