MATENADARAN-INSTITUTE OF ANCIENT MANUSCRIPTS AFTER M. MASHTOTS
ENRICHED WITH AN ARMENIAN MANUSCRIPT OF 17TH CENTURY

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS: Matenadaran-institute of ancient
manuscripts after M. Mashtots has been enriched with a New Testament
written in 1689. The manuscript which is rich with miniatures was
written in Tatev by Mahtesi Aristakes on the order of Deacon Martiros
    of Agarak village.
According to Hrachya Tamrazian, the Director of Matenadaran during
the last 2 years thanks to the philanthropists the Armenian collection
of manuscripts has been enriched with nearly 100 unique manuscripts
purchased in different ways. More often they are property of the
dynasty which is proposed to Matenadaran and thanks to the
philanthropists they involved in the rich collection of ancient
    manuscripts.
The donation of this Tatev manuscript is one of those cases which
was purchased and today presented to Matenadaran by the Head of "AGBA
credit agricol" bank Stepan Gishian. According to him this institute
of ancient manuscripts which is considered to be a holy place has a
great spiritual importance for Armenians, therefore when he was
offered to buy the manuscript, he agreed without suspicion.
"I would like this experience to be infectious for my partners and
the tradition of collection of ancient manuscripts is continued," he
    said.
Matenadaran itself presented the philanthropist Stepan Gishian with
a medal after M. Mashtots and a French album of collection of
    manuscripts.
This ancient manuscript of Tatev is the 11,171st manuscript of
    Matenadaran.
