Philip Morris International says Armenian tobacco legislation needs to
be reformed
YEREVAN, September 11, /ARKA/. Aharon Tadevosian, a responsible for
corporate relations of Philip Morris International (PMI) in Armenia,
said today Armenia's legislation on use of tobacco products needs to be
reformed.
`We are for strong legislation and its effective application,' he said
during a seminar today convened to discuss ways to hold juveniles back
from smoking and how to reform the related legislation.
According to him, Philip Morris International stands for clear-cut and
tough regulation of the sector and for ensuing equal conditions to all
companies.
He said the PMI is in direct contact with public at large informing it
on the dangers of smoking through mass media and Internet. Besides, he
said, the company's representatives visits regularly trade outlets
selling cigarettes to provide them with information about the danger of
smoking. He said in case of finding out that cigarettes are sold to
juveniles the company stops supplying it with its produces. `Children
are not our clients,' he said.
PMI is one of the leading cigarette producing companies in the world
holding over 15% of the global market outside the USA. In Armenia it is
represented by Philip Morris Management Services BV since 1995, selling
