Opposition criticizes Armenian stance in normalisation talks with Turkey
Yerevan, 11 September: The opposition will start "a struggle against
the authoritarianism" with new forces after a rally to be held on 18
September, the coordinator of the opposition Armenian National
Congress (ANC), Levon Zurabyan, said at a news conference in Yerevan
today, Mediamax reports.
He noted that the current authorities proved to be incompetent both in
the economic and political life of the country. He said that the
regime is continuing to support the artificial monopoly, exert
pressure on the free economy and facilitate the outflow of the
domestic capital.
Touching on the issue of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations,
Zurabyan said that the recent developments showed that the Armenian
leadership had acquiesced in all preconditions dictated by Turkey:
setting up a commission of historians to study the facts of genocide,
ratification of protocols by legislative bodies, etc.
Zurabyan expressed confidence that Turkey's interests in the given
issue is because of a desire to end the disputed issues that cause
tension in its relations with the USA, and to demonstrate a false
democracy to the international community.
The ANC coordinator said that Turkey pretends to be ready for
normalization of relations without preconditions, although it is in a
position to delay the process of ratification as long as the Karabakh
conflict remains unresolved.
