    ARMENPRESS
    SEPTEMBER 16, 2009
    YEREVAN

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS: Armenia has been ranked the
97th among the 133 countries in the Global Economic Forum's Global
Competitiveness Report for 2009-2010, chairman of the "Economy and
Values" research center - partner of the Global Competitiveness Network
    - Manuk Hergnyan said presenting "Armenia's National Competitiveness
    Report 2009".

He said in spite of that index from the viewpoint of competitiveness
Armenia in 2009 has moved to a qualitatively new round where the role
    of competitiveness' promoters is changing.

"Comparatively good results have been registered in basic spheres. The
progress is particularly notable in respect of infrastructures and
macroeconomic stability. A certain regress has been registered in
efficiency of the product market and innovation sphere," Hergnyan said.

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, highly assessing the
implemented work, noted that the report will be a reliable partner of
the private and state sector. He said in spite of the consequences
of the global crisis, the Armenian government is doing everything
to overcome this trial with honor. The prime minister expressed
hope that in different programs the report will be an impetus for
    serious reforms.

Deputy director of USAID Armenia John Syong noted that the goal of
the report is to assist to the extended dialogue between private
and public sectors, implementation of the discussions which will
promote the increase of Armenia's competitiveness and formation of
    the effective innovative national system.

Member of the "Economy and Values" research center's board Sevak
Hovhannissyan presented the main competitive advantages of Armenia -
small state debt, regulation of labor market, agricultural policy. He
said the list of flaws is topped by the existence of dominating groups
in the market and unrealized competitive level.
