Press Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia Edward Sharmazanov
was assuring today that the Armenian-Turkish negotiations and the
protocols were not dangerous.
"We do not need opening of borders at any cost, we do not need
establishment of diplomatic relations at any cost. We need opening
of borders and establishment of diplomatic relations without
preconditions. Any preconditions, including those connected with
the Karabakh issue, are unacceptable to us. The Republic of Armenia
will not allow any country, including Turkey, to speak with it in
the language of ultimatums. The language of ultimatums is not the
best option in diplomacy. We also could have set preconditions if we
wished so," Sharmazanov said.
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation adheres to a different
opinion. After having studied the protocols, they have made a number
of proposals, and they hope protocols will be ratified only after
some changes are implemented.
With regard to this, Edward Sharmazanov reminded the Armenian Foreign
Minister's position.
"The Foreign Minister has given a clear answer to Mr. Hiovhannisyan,
the head of ARF Dashnaktsutyun faction. He has clearly stated
that it's the Foreign Ministries, not Parliaments conducting the
negotiations. The parties have reached an agr eement as a result of
mutual concessions, and naturally, these very documents are going to
be submitted for ratification," Edward Sharmazanov said.
