"Presently we are holding negotiations with presidents and foreign
ministers, and the co-chairs regularly come to visit. They visit
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh. We have already held a number
of meetings with Azerbaijan's president, and have discussed several
clauses of the Madrid Principles. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
recently joined us, and with his help, we have nearly come to an
agreement on the first clause, for which, of course, we are thankful
to him. I say this on my behalf," President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
stated in his interview to the Russian TV station Vesti ("News").
He also noted that the two countries' -- Armenia and Azerbaijan's --
presidents must meet more frequently and continue the discussion of
the principles.
"The presidents of the co-chair countries advised their representatives
to present the revised version of the Madrid Principles at our
discussion. And if the revised version actually corresponds to the
essence and logic of the Madrid Principles, that's good. That is,
if they take into consideration the results of those discussions and
clauses which have we have already approved. But if the document is
named as a revised version of the Madrid Principles, but there are
new ideas in its essence and logic, then I think that the process
will be delayed. Let's wait and see," Sargsyan stated.
