KREKORIAN NETS FIRST PLACE IN SPECIAL ELECTION, MOVES TO RUNOFF

NORTH HOLLYWOOD-Los Angeles City Council Candidate Paul Krekorian
placed well ahead of his rivals Tuesday night in the race for the
city's Second Council District. Krekorian will now face a run-off
on Dec. 8 where he will seek to become the first Armenian-American
member of the L.A. City Council.

Before a crowd of 200 supporters, friends and grassroots community
leaders Tuesday night, Krekorian said that the election results
signify the start of a real movement for change in Los Angeles.

"Today we saw a great beginning, but we are certainly far from our
goal," Krekorian said. "I was disappointed that so few people showed
up to the polls last night, but there's a reason for that. People
are disenchanted that the city is not listening to them and not
representing what they want. But we delivered our vote because of the
incredible work we did in sending a clear message that we listen to
constituents and respond to their needs. That's the way we run our
campaigns, that's the way I serve people in the state assembly and
thats the way I'm going to serve people on the City Council. People
are desperately hungry for a government that will at long last
listen to them and not the special interests of Downtown special
interests. We have an opportunity here not just to win a campaign,
but to fundamentally change City Hall. We are on our way."

The final vote count of 14,525 voters, according to the LA. City Clerk
showed Paul Krekorian with 34.1 percent of the vote and Christine Essel
with 28.3 percent. The two will now face off in a Dec. 8 run-off. For
