NUMBER OF FAILURES CONSIDERABLY REDUCED AT SOUTH CAUCASUS RAILROAD IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. Number of faults reduced by 46 at South
Caucasus Railroad over eight months of this year as compared with
the same period of last year, the company's press service reported.
Among faults are accidents, derailment, damaged engines and cars,
broken rails, running-down accidents, fires, track defects and etc.
According to the report, 215 failures were recorded in 2008; in 2009
the number of faults went down to 169.
Many failures that occurred in 2008 were not recorded due to lack of
an appropriate data record system.
Active work of the company's railroad security experts helped reduce
the number of failures, the company's chief inspector for train
operation security Levon Hakobyan said.
Train operation security is a priority direction for the company. He
said.
Hakobyan also reported continuous monitoring of security on the
railroad and measures to prevent failures. He said number of failures
is expected to continuously reduce.
South Caucasus Railroad fully owned by the Russian Railways is the
operator of the Armenian Railways under a 30-year concession agreement
signed on February 13 2008. The agreement may be extended for another
10 years if agreed upon by the parties.
