    Beirut catches the world's Eyes by hosting the sixth Francophone
    Games.

    Karam: preparations have been completed and the attendance exceeded
    all expectations.

    The attention of the French-speaking countries is today drawn to
    Beirut that will host for the first time on its home soil, the sixth
    session of the Francophone Games.

    The 6th Francophone Games media committee stated on Saturday that all
    official and concerned delegations have arrived to Lebanon.
    The event will start on Sunday September 27, 2009 at 6 p.m. to end
    October 6, 2009. It will host 48 participating countries worldwide
    during 10 days.
    The Francophone games are held every 4 years, with the participation
    of 3,000+ athletes, youths, and artists from 56 French-speaking
    countries and 14 observer countries. It is a popular sports and art
    festival.

    President Michel Suleiman will open the games with a speech during
    which he will focus on the beautiful face of Lebanon, its civilization
    and cultural heritage.

    Doctor Khalil Karam said that Representatives and leaders of
    Francophone countries will attend the event, among others the Lebanese
    President Michel Sleiman, French Prime Minister François
    Fillon, secretary general of the Francophone League Abdo Diouf, and
    officials from Lebanon and Francophone countries, as well as
    representatives of military, political, sports, scouting, media,
    educational and economic fields.

    He also stated that the number of ministers participating in the
    opening of the Games surpassed the 30 ministers coming from all the
    participating countries, including some Arab ministers.

    List of countries participating in the Games:
    Armenia, Benin, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada,
    Canada New Brunswick, Canada Quebec, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Central,
    Cyprus, Comoros, French Community of Belgium, Congo, DR Congo (former
    Zaire), Dominica, Egypt, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,
    France, Gabon, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Greece, Equatorial
    Guinea, Haiti, Laos, Lebanon, Luxem
    Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mauritania, Monaco, Mozambique,
    Niger, Romania, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Switzerland, Chad, Togo,
    Tunisia, Vietnam.

    The Games is a festive and popular event that allow all participants
    to meet, compete and freely express the diversity of the francophone
    culture it is also a high-level sports and arts; it includes:
    ¢ 6 compétitions sportives : athlétisme,
    football junior, basket-ball féminin, tennis de table, judo,
    boxe et une nouvelle animation, le beach
    volleyball 6 sporting events: athletics, football
    junior, women's basketball, table tennis, judo, boxing and a new
    animation, beach volleyball
    ¢ 7 cultural competitions: song, dance, sculpture,
    painting, photography, storytelling and literature (new)
    ¢ The opening and closing ceremonies
    ¢ Entertainment devices colorful concerts, exhibitions, street
    theater, sports, and interscholastic varsity.

    French Prime Minister Francois Fillion will arrive in Beirut Sunday to
    open the Sixth Francophone Games, which will take place in the
    Lebanese capital from Sept. 27 until Oct in Sports City, Beirut.
    Fillion is expected to meet President Michel Suleiman, PM-designate
    Saad Hariri, and Speaker Nabih Berri during his Lebanon stay.
