SPEAKER OF THE ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT HOVIK ABRAHAMYAN IS IN IRAN ON AN OFFICIAL VISIT

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS: Official visit of the Speaker of
Armenian Parliament Hovik Abrahamyan to Iran started on September 29.
Public relations department of Armenian Parliament told Armenpress
that the delegation headed by the NA Speaker was met by the first
assistant to the Speaker of Iranian parliament Seyed Mohammad Hasan
Abutorabifad with whom Abrahamyan had a short conversation in the
hall of the honorary guests of the Tehran "Mehrabad" airport.
Afterwards the delegation headed by the NA Speaker left for the
parliament of Islamic Republic of Iran where the meeting between
Abrahamyan and the Speaker of Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani took
place. Greeting the delegation of Armenian parliament the speaker of
Iranian parliament expressed his confidence that the Armenian-Iranian
aged relationship today found its true and faithful advocates.
He also expressed hope that the firm historical base enables today to
foster the bilateral relations in all the spheres including political,
trade-economic and cultural.
Expressing gratitude for warm reception the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan
agreed with the assessments of the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament
to the bilateral relations. He reconfirmed his invitation to Larijani
to visit Armenia and expressed hope that in the nearest future he
will host his Iranian counterpart in Yerevan.
During the meeting H. Abrahamyan and A. Larijani discussed the
agreements reached between Armenia and Iranian Presidents during
S. Sargsyan's visit to Iran as well as the issues of implementation of
the projects initiated by them putting a special stress on the project
of the new railroad connecting Iran and Armenia with each other.
The interlocutors agreed that Armenian Iranian firm and friendly
relations derive from the long-ranging strategic interests of the
two states. In this context they discussed the strategic situation in
the region. On the request of A. Larijani H. Abr ion in the Artsakh
negotiations as well as the latest developments in the regulation of
Armenian-Turkish relations.
During the meeting the interlocutors also agreed to deepen the
inter-parliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Iran. Afterwards
the delegation headed by the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamian visited
Iranian Supreme Council of National Security where he met the Secretary
General of Supreme Council of National Security Sayid Jalili. During
the meeting S. Jalili presented the cooperation projects with the
Armenian National Security Council. Then the interlocutors launched
discussion on the regional security issues.
On the same day the delegation headed by the NA Speaker Hovik
Abrahamian visited the Armenian Embassy to Iran where he met the
Armenian diplomats working in Tehran.
Today the meeting of H. Abrahamian with the President of Islamic
Republic of Iran Mahmud Ahmadinezhad took place.
