AP. An official says a top Turkish envoy is in Armenia for talks on
the delayed ratification of agreements to improve ties.
The Foreign Ministry official says Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu
is in Yerevan on Wednesday also to prepare the ground for a meeting
between the Turkish and Armenian leaders in the United States next
week.
Turkey and Armenia signed historic agreements for reconciliation in
October, but the deals still need to be approved by their parliaments.
The agreements call for the establishment of diplomatic relations
and the reopening of their border.
Turkey closed the border in 1993 to protest Armenia's war with
neighboring Azerbaijan.
Armenia wants Turkey to acknowledge the 1915 massacre of up to 1.5
million Armenians as genocide.
