Azeri newspaper Zerkalo states that Ankara is very much interested in
regulating relations with Armenia because Turkey's accession to the
EU very much depends on these relations. According to some Turkish
analysts there are also serious economic incentives for regulating
relations with Armenia, as currently Turkish products can only be
re-exported to Armenia via Iran and Georgia.
The newspaper also discussed the present uncertain relations
between Turkey and Azerbaijan and the situation in Georgia after its
confrontation with Moscow. Overall it was highlighted in the article
that Turkey wants to more actively participate in the events going
on in the South Caucasus. Ankara is trying to balance itself between
the Russians and Americans in the risky Caucasus region.
