RA President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with Dr.
Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of the International
Telecommunication Union (ICU).
The RA presidential press office informed NEWS.am that the Armenian
President expressed hope that Mr. Hamadoun Touré's visit will give
impetus to Armenia's cooperation with ICU. The Armenian leader stated
that the reforms in the Armenian telecommunication sector are, to a
certain extent, due to cooperation with ICU.
The ICU Secretary General pointed out serious progress in the Armenian
telecommunication sector over recent years.
The sides discussed the problem of the IT sector and opportunities for
development. Dr. Hamadoun Touré stated that the ICU will continue its
cooperation with Armenia in three major fields: capacity extension,
sector management and TV digitization.
President Serzh Sargsyan pointed out the importance of ensuring
cybersecurity along with Internet development. He stressed the ICU's
assistance in retraining Armenian specialists, technical support
and consultations.
