Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Armenian President
Serge Sarkisian in Washington, D.C., on Monday on the sidelines of
the nuclear security summit hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Foreign Ministry
Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu, as well as Armenian Foreign
Minister Edward Nalbandian and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President
of Armenia Vigen Sarkisian, were also in attendance at the meeting,
diplomats said. No further details were made about the key meeting
as Hurriyet Daily News & Economic Review went to press Monday.
Erdogan sent Sinirlioglu to the Armenian capital Yerevan last
week as his special envoy. During Sinirlioglu's talks with Armenian
authorities, the parties agreed that Erdogan and Sarkisian would meet
in Washington.
Turkey and Armenia signed historic diplomatic protocols Oct. 10 to
normalize their bilateral ties and establish diplomatic relations.
