REGISTRATION OF CANDIDATES FOR DEPUTIES OF NAGORNY KARABAKH REPUBLIC NATIONAL ASSEMBLY GETS UNDERWAY

ArmInfo. Registration of candidates for deputies of the Nagorny
Karabakh Republic National Assembly of the 5th convocation started
on April 14. The elections are scheduled for May 23 2010.
Referring to Chairman of the NKR Central Electoral Commission Sergey
Nasibyan, ArmInfo correspondent to Stepanakert reported that deadline
for registration is April 18. Four parties will fight 17 seats in the
parliament: Free Motherland, Democratic Party Artsakh, NKR Communist
Party and ARF Dashnakstutyun. There are 20 women among 94 candidates
in the party tickets. A total of 46 candidates will fight for 16 seats
under majority system, and another one has withdrawn his candidature.
Three woman-candidates will run for the parliament under majority
system. The NKR Police timely launched preparation of electoral
registers, which have already been posted at polling stations. The
electoral campaign will start on April 19 and continue till the
midnight of May 21. Campaigning on May 22-23 will be banned. Sergey
Nasibyan said over 50 international observers and 30 international
mass media have already made preliminary applications for observation
of the elections.
