The Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) today welcomed the support
of Deval Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
regarding U.S. affirmation of the Armenian Genocide.

"The Armenian Genocide is a fact," Governor Patrick told the Assembly.

"I join with the Armenian Community in support of swift passage of H.
Res. 252, the Armenian Genocide resolution."

Last month, Governor Patrick sent letters to House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi (D-CA) and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard
Berman (D-CA) in support of H.Res. 252 in the lead-up to passage
in Committee. The letter read in part: "[H.Res. 252] will honor the
extraordinary efforts of our courageous diplomats who alerted the world
to the carnage taking place and the U.S. humanitarian intervention
that followed to help save the survivors." Governor Patrick urged
adoption of the resolution by the House Foreign Affairs Committee
and by the full House of Representatives stating that "for far too
long this crime against humanity has been denied."

In addition to his support of the Armenian Genocide resolution,
Governor Patrick was instrumental in the establishment of the Armenian
Heritage Park, which includes an Armenian Genocide Memorial within
the Rose Kennedy Greenway on Boston's Waterfront, scheduled to open
    this Fall.

"Governor Patrick has stood shoulder to shoulder with the Armenian
community of Massachusetts from ensuring the success of the Armenian
    Heritage Park to proper acknowledgement of the Armenian Genocide;
he has earned our respect and gratitude" said State Representative
    Peter Koutoujian.
