Property rights in Armenia are not protected by the law, Head of
Armenian Helsinki Committee, Avetik Ishkhanyan, said at a press
conference today.
"All our fight did not yield any significant result when the
confiscation process started in Armenia. Nor did we have any success
even after a ruling by the Constitutional Court of Armenia," said
Ishkhanyan.
According to him it is not clear what is meant by "priority interest"
in Armenian legislation.
"It can somehow be understood, if a road or any other building is
planned to be built there. But it is a little not clear when houses
are pulled down to built other houses instead," explained Ishkhanyan.
In his words all problems in this sphere are caused by the fact that
the law on property is not protected in Armenia.
"Property [in Armenia] is protected only when a person is a
representative of authority," concluded Ishkhanyan.
