Terry Davidson The US embassy in Baku has responded to Azerbaijani
criticism of the US role as one of the OSCE Minsk Group mediators on
the Karabakh conflict.
'The United States has long been supporting efforts aimed at the
achievement of a long-term, peaceful and fair resolution of the
Karabakh conflict,' the head of the public policy department at the
US embassy in Azerbaijan, Terry Davidson, told 1news.az today.
He said that as one of the three countries co-chairing the Minsk
Group, the United States balanced its efforts, understanding that
both Azerbaijan and Armenia must accept the principles of the peaceful
resolution of the conflict.
Earlier today, the head of the public policy department of the
Azerbaijani presidential administration, Ali Hasanov, criticized the
US role in finding a Karabakh settlement. 'We are not satisfied with
US activity within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. We say this
openly,' Hasanov said. 'Azerbaijan has repeatedly raised the issue of
the violation of its rights in Nagorno-Karabakh and its territorial
integrity. However, unfortunately, some US circles and institutions,
influenced by the Armenian lobby, often lose neutrality and provide
open support to Armenia.'
