What Happened in 1915, Constituted Genocide: John McCain
17:35 - 17.04.10
US former presidential nominee Republican Senator John McCain
reiterated his view on what happened in the waning days of the Ottoman
Empire, saying it constituted genocide.
`For years the U.S. and Turkey have been friends and allies. Turks
fought next to U.S. troops in many wars and I hope we will do our
utmost to maintain relations,' said McCain in an interview with Voice
of America radio station, adding that the Armenian Genocide should not
become an long-lasting problem in Turkish-Armenian relations.
`I am confident that what happened, constituted genocide, but I say
now that it was orchestrated in other times and under another
government. This should be considered by all parties,' said McCain.
