in 2009, Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on April
18 in an interview with NTV channel.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan said the protocols refer to
'facilitating peace for the region'. Along with it, he emphasized once
again that "when referring to regional peace, one should consider
the problem between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as Azerbaijan-Armenia
dispute was the reason for the closure of border gates".
"We have to solve the problem between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Unless
we solve this problem, the Turkish Parliament will not say 'yes'
to the protocols. We do not wish to see a negative decision by the
Turkish Parliament. As such, we are preparing the necessary platform
in the parliament", Erdogan said.
