ArmInfo. The fish import procedures applied in Russia have
proved too complicated for Armenian exporters, President of the
Association of Fish Breeders of Armenia Arkady Gevorgyan said during a
press-conference today when asked to comment on the recent confiscation
of a batch of Armenian fish at the Russian port of Novorossiysk.
To remind, 19 tons of Siberian sturgeon from Armenia were seized in
Novorossiysk Apr 19 because of lack of necessary veterinary documents
and Rosselkhoznadzor's permission. In Armenia the cargo was certified
but, so as to be able to import it into Russia the Armenian exporters
needed permission by local authorities. "They were not aware of this,"
Gevorgyan said.
Before the embargo imposted on the import of Armenian fish in 2007 the
annual export of Armenian fish to Russia amounted to $1mln. In Nov 2009
the embargo was lifted for almost 20 Armenian companies. In Jan-Mar
2010 the export of Armenian fish to Russia totalled $80,000-100,000.
