The Armenian National Congress (HAK) today held a silent procession to
Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex with placards, "The massacres of
April 24, 1915, were organised by Turkish authorities and the clashes
of March 1, 2008, by Armenian authorities. Shame on the murderers!"
The march was headed by the opposition leaders. Armenia's first
President Levon Ter-Petrosyan joined the procession near the memorial.
On seeing Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the police divided the marchers into
two groups forbidding the opposition supporters to join the group.
However, Ter-Petrosyan did not move ahead without his proponents.
As soon as the group neared Tsitsernakaberd, the Public TV interrupted
live broadcast.
With their fists up, the Congress members went up to the Eternal Fire
and laid flowers to the victims of the 1915 Genocide.
The opposition leaders today refused to talk about the senseless
obstacles posed on their way to the memorial.
The relatives of the March 1 victims participated in the procession of
the Congress.
"March 1, 2008, does not differ from April 24, 1915. The only
difference is that in 1915 innocent people were killed by Turks while
our children were killed by Armenian authorities. I believe that all
criminals will be made accountable in time," said Sargis Kloyan, the
father of March 1 victim Sargis Kloyan.
