ARMENIAN-TURKISH PROTOCOLS REMAIN IN THE BIG AGENDA OF THE SPRING SESSION OF THE PARLIAMENT

YEREVAN, APRIL 26, ARMENPRESS: The regular four-day sessions of the
Armenian National Assembly launched today chaired by the NA speaker
Hovik Abrahamyan. He said 23 international contracts and 13 legislative
initiatives have been involved in the agenda of the four-day sessions
which have received positive conclusions by the NA committees.
In response to the question of the head of the "Heritage"
parliamentary faction Armen Martirosyan, Hovik Abrahamyan said that
the Armenian-Turkish protocols have been withdrawn from the NA's
four-day session's agenda but they still remain in the big agenda of
the spring session.
Within the framework of the "Open Door" program pupils from the
Armenian province of Gegharkunik were participating in the session.
During the meeting with them, Hovik Abrahamyan referred to the issues
of the Armenian-Turkish relations and Karabakh conflict settlement
process.
Hovik Abrahamyan said that before taking any action directed toward the
settlement of the Armenian-Turkish relations and after signing of the
Armenian-Turkish protocols, the Armenian authorities were expecting
that finally the issue would be solved, the borders would open and
diplomatic relations would be established without pre-conditions. "We
were expecting that the protocols would be ratified by the Turkish
side after which the Armenian side would have done it. The recent
processes showed that they are not serious partners as opposite to
bilateral arrangements they forwarded preconditions connected with
the Armenian Genocide and Nagorno Karabakh issue, which of course is
unacceptable for us. There is no eternal hostility and we wish that
relations between the two states be normalized," Hovik Abrahamyan
said. He pointed out that currently in the parliaments of different
countries bills on recognizing the Armenian Genocide are put on the
agenda. The NA chairman highlights this process but he said it is
important that Turkey itself recognizes the crime committed by its
ancestors. If the Armenian Genocide received timely necessary respond
of the international community the genocide of Jewish might have not
taken place.
Speaking about the Karabakh conflict settlement, the NA speaker noted
that Armenia has always come forth for the peaceful settlement of
the conflict. He reminded that the peace talks are going on within
the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group and any other mediation in this
issue is excluded. "Nagorno Karabakh cannot be part of Azerbaijan and
the most important for Armenia is the issue of the status of the NK,"
Hovik Abrahamyan said.
