NAKHIDJEVAN TOPIC IN THE CENTER

The Nakhidjevan topic suddenly appears in the center of the Armenian
and Turkish, Armenian-Azerbaijani and Iranian-Turkish processes. An
already forgotten problem, which seemed to be given up, turns out to
be ready to burst out with new force.
Real interest towards Nakhidjevan shows Iran, which does not want at
all that a territory which has been under its protectorate passes
into the "guarantees of Turkey", which has only a border of 10 km
with Nakhidjevan.
Armenia has an interesting position, which, at first instance,
does not care much about its bordering Nakhidjevan. Moreover, Serge
Sargsyan, dwelling on Karabakh, even stated that he will not let
"it become another Nakhidjevan", from where in 1980ies, the whole
Armenian population was expelled.
At the same time, the political scientist Igor Muradyan thinks
Armenia's strategic task is to unite Nakhidjevan to Armenia "from where
the Azeris are to be evicted, as invaders, settled the region under
the auspices of the Ottoman Empire and the Shah of Iran in 18 century".
The conditions of Nakhidjevan worsen from the point that Armenia,
so far, has not accepted the treaty of Kars and is not going to
do it. No accident, Davutoglu mentioned the Kars treaty during his
meeting with the Speaker of Nakhidjevan parliament.
Relations between Armenia and Nakhidjevan were of essential importance
during the Karabakh war: Armenia was unable to have a second front,
moreover, in case of the participation of Turkish soldiers. But the
situation has changed. No accident, some supporters of radical fight
against Armenia state about possible influence of Armenia's answer
to Azerbaijani possible actions in Karabakh in Nakhidjevan.
