ArmInfo. "Protecting the interests of Palestine Turkey strives to
increase its authority in the Islamic world," Kristine Melkonyan,
the Armenian National Academy of Science (NAS) Fellow, said during the
XXXI scientific conference of young orientalists of the NAS of Armenia.
"Although Turkey has proclaimed itself a social country but it is
at the same time a Muslim country and protecting the interests of
Palestine Turkey tries to increase its authority in the Islamic
world," Melkonyan said. She believes that Turkey will not wage a
policy that may damage its authority in the Islamic world, which
may become possible as a result of its vote at the UN for division
of Palestine. K. Melkonyan said that Turkey's regional policy in the
Middle East has changed since 2002 after the Justice and Development
Party came to power and relations with Arab countries have become
warmer amid alienation of Turkish- Israel ties.
