KERRY PULLS BAKU ENVOY NOMINEE FROM TODAY'S VOTE

The U.S. has not had an ambassador in Baku since last July, and it
looks like it may be a while longer before one arrives.

Last week I reported that Matthew Bryza, President Barack Obama's
nominee to be ambassador to Azerbaijan, was running into opposition
from the Armenian National Committee of America, a lobbying group.

Though Bryza was placed last Friday on the list of two dozen ambassador
nominees to be voted on today by the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee, I am now getting word that committee chairman Sen. John
Kerry (D-Mass.) has pulled him from the list expected to go up for a
unanimous consent motion at the committee's afternoon business meeting.

"There has been a request hold over nominee Matt Bryza, so the
committee will not consider his nomination until after recess,"
SFRC spokesman Frederick Jones tells POLITICO.

Hill sources say Democratic Sens. Barbara Boxer of California and
Robert Menendez of New Jersey had expressed concerns about the
    nomination.

Bryza is expected to come up for a vote at the committee's next
business meeting next month, a Senate staffer said.

UPDATE: All the other nominees were voted out of committee at the
Tuesday business meeting, a staffer said.
