ARMENIA CONCERNED OVER RUSSIA-AZERBAIJAN RAPPROCHEMENT

Russia has always been Armenia's strategic ally but Yerevan is
concerned over Russia-Azerbaijan rapprochement, Director of the
Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia
Ashot Melkonyan told a press conference.
"Unfortunately, Azerbaijan is a weighty country for Russia due to
the oil factor," speaker said.
According to Melkonyan, Russia is likely to take serious steps that
would be favorable for Azerbaijan, "thus we need to specify a number
of issues with our strategic partner",- Aysor.am reported.
"I have always had pro-Russian disposition, however, the point is
we should know that Azerbaijan means something to Russia in terms
of oil factor and Russia could take steps in favor of Azerbaijan,"
the historian said, Panorama.am reported.
Melkonyan thinks that it's high time for Armenia to clarify some
issues with its strategic partner. "Particularly it goes about an
attack by a CIS state on a CSTO member state. It's vague as to what
steps the CSTO will undertake in case a CIS state attacks on a CSTO
member state," he highlighted.
