The regular session of inter-departmental commission coordinating
the works on reviewing the Armenian defense strategy took place
today at the Armenian defense ministry co-chaired by the National
Security Council Secretary Arthur Baghdasaryan and Defense Minister
Seyran Ohanyan.
Arthur Baghdasaryan said that the threats of the region demand creation
of up-to-dated, flexible military-industrial complex which would
be able to operatively respond to the military-political situation,
the challenges.
"The military-industrial sphere is of great importance taking into
consideration its opportunities of promoting the economic development.
The military-industrial complex must be one of the most important
elements of the national economy which will be able to create new
jobs," Arthur Baghdasaryan said. The latter has already met with the
heads of the enterprises of military-industrial sphere and raised the
above mentioned issues as well as pointed out the ways of development
of the sphere.
The NAS secretary considers extremely important the recent visit of
the top representatives of the Russian military-technical cooperation
federal service, CSTO secretary general to Armenia during which
concrete practical arrangements have been reached in a number of
military-industrial directions - particularly over creating joint
ventures.
He registered that for the first time steps are being undertaken in
Armenia toward working out short-term and long-term military-industrial
development programs.
Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said the implementation of the complex
programs will raise the Armenian Armed Forces on a new qualitative
level.
After the session he told the reporters that the mentioned programs
are realistic and correspond to Armenia's financial potential and
will be implemented in accordance with the schedule.
"The programs include acquiring of up-to-dated equipment and their
production on site... the program will be implemented effectively
with minimal expenses," the minister assured. He said Armenia is
carrying out its military programs taking into consideration the
regional threats and security issues.
