YEREVAN, AUGUST 13, ARMENPRESS: The first gala-exhibition of Armenian
abstract artists will open August 17 in the Museum of Contemporary
Art, which, according to organizers, is a huge attempt to draw the
public attention to the abstract art.
"Abstract art can basically change a person, turn into quite another
individuality," artist Garik Karapetyan noted at today's meeting with
journalists adding that this year the 100th anniversary of formation
of abstract art is marked as well, which coincides with the exhibition.
A painting was created by artist Vasili Kandinski in 1910, which
in future was considered the first abstract work. According to the
organizers of the exhibition, it is high time to change the current
standards in art in Armenia, as it is already for a long time that
the world lives with quite another art and merits.
Sculptor Ashot Harutyunyan noted that a way of free thinking is
necessary to shape, and the goal of the exhibition is just that.
Forty five paintings of 15 artists arrived from Australia, Canada,
Europe and other places and 10 sculptures will be exhibited till
September 2.
