"CSTO non official summit undertaken in Armenia has just symbolic
meaning, as such events are being organized in all the member countries
of the organization," Deputy Director of the Caucasus Institute,
political scientist Sergey Minasyan told a press conference.
According to him, CSTO summit has three important priorities for
Armenia: "Firstly, it is the creation of rapid response subdivisions.
Second, Armenia can cooperate with the member countries concerning
the military techniques. Thirdly, CSTO provides Armenia with some
political dividends."
"The contract signed for the lengthening of the terms of Russian
military base allocation in Armenia for 49 years is a message to
Azerbaijan, according to which, Russia is ready to show military
support when needed," the political scientist said.
Sergey Minasyan is not sure that Russia has sold S- 300 type missile
complex to Azerbaijan. However, he does not exclude such thing to
be happen.
"Even if Russia sells it to Azerbaijan, it means that the guarantees
for Armenia will be increased for the technical balance," he concluded.
