The U.S. administration has responded to an Azeri note over the
decision to provide financial aid to Nagorno- Karabakh, Azerbaijan
Foreign Ministry press secretary Elkhan Polukhov told Interfax.
"The note says that the U.S. administration never did and never
will recognize Nagorno-Karabakh. The U.S. remains committed to the
principle of being transparent and open with Azerbaijan about its
projects implemented in Nagorno-Karabakh," Polukhov said.
"The reply note was received by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington
on January 26," he said.
It was reported that Azeri Ambassador to the U.S. Yashar Aliyev sent
a note of protest from the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry to the U.S.
Department of State in mid-December 2009 over the decision by the U.S.
Congress to allocate $8 million in financial aid to Nagorno-Karabakh
in 2010.
