ADJUTANT GENERAL TO TAKE PART IN DISCUSSION ON TURKISH-ARMENIAN BORDER
TOPEKA, Kan., Feb. 5 -- The Kansas Adjutant General issued the
following news release:
Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the adjutant general, will be a participant in
a round-table discussion on issues related to the recent announcement
that Turkey and Armenia have agreed in principle to normalize the
border between the two nations. Bunting's presentation will be
"Overview of the Armenia-Kansas State Partnership Program."
The discussion, "Turkish-Armenian Border: Challenges and Implications
of Change," will be held Monday, Feb. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Parlors
A, B and C of the Kansas Union on the University of Kansas campus,
Lawrence. The event is sponsored by the university's Center for
Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, along with the
departments of Geography and Sociology, the Kansas National Guard and
Fort Leavenworth's Command and General Staff College.
In addition to Bunting, the event will feature presentations by
representatives from Fort Leavenworth's Command and General Staff
College and Foreign Military Studies Office and KU faculty members.
Since 2003, the Kansas National Guard has been partnered with the
Republic of Armenia through the State Partnership Program, a National
Guard program that partners the National Guard with developing nations
to foster military-to-military, military-to-civilian and
civilian-to-civilian relationships. Bunting and other members of the
Kansas National Guard, as well as representatives from law
enforcement, education, medicine, agriculture and other professions,
have visited Armenia several times and representatives from various
Armenian military and civilian organizations have come to Kansas for
training, discussions and other events. Soldiers of the Armenian
Peacekeeping Brigade have deployed to serve alongside soldiers from
the United States and other coalition forces.
Recently, members of the Kansas National Guard's 190th Civil
Engineering Squadron deployed to Armenia to construct a warehouse for
an Expeditionary Medical System mobile hospital purchased by the
