As reported by Tert.am earlier, the 12th court session on the
assassination of Hrant Dink, former chief editor of Istanbul-based
Armenian-Turkish weekly Agos, took place two days ago. It was expected
that the court would hear a witness involved in the case whose name
is kept secret. But the so-called secret witness did not make an
appearance in court.
Turkish daily Milliyet reports that Erkan Janaq, the judge presiding
over the trial, had explained that the witness did not attend the
session due to his poor command of Turkish.
"The secret witness does not speak Turkish well enough. I did
not summon the witness to the court because I could not find an
interpreter," Janak reportedly said.
But Milliyet reports today that Janak said he had not summoned the
secret witness to the court because he could not find an interpreter
who could speak Armenian.
Milliyet also mentioned that the testimony the secret witness provided
to the prosecutor was in Turkish. Earlier, it was mentioned that
said witness had provided information on the case with the help of
an interpreter.
According to the publication, the secret witness told the prosecutor's
office he had seen how two people approached Dink and shot at him.
According to him, the person shooting at Dink from the front was Ogun
Samast, while the other, Yasin Hayal, shot at him from behind. The
witness also told them he saw Yasin's brother, Osman Hayal, among
the crowd gathered round Dink lying on the street after being murdered.
Contrary to the witness' testimony, the widespread viewpoint is that
Ogun Samast shot Dink, while Yasin Hayal and Erhan Tuncel gave him
instructions.
