TURKEY LOBBIES FOR "MUSLIM VETO" AT UNITED NATIONS

Turkey has prepared an initiative for a Muslim country to have the
veto right at the United Nations.
According to the unclosed informants in Ankara, during the ruling
AK Party's Parliamentary Group's closed session, the Organization
of Islamic Conference Parliamentary Assembly President Irfan Gunduz
informed the party members about the role of Turkey in the Islamic
world.
After his speech, AK Party Mus Deputy Seracettin Karagiz said,
"the United Nations has more than 60 Muslim countries, but none
have the right to veto" and asked if there is something to change
this situation.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan responded to Karayagiz's question,
saying "it is important for Muslim world of one billion to find a
better representation in the UN."
"We are working on this issue. We talked about it during my last
visit to Libya," Erdogan said. Sources said that Turkey started
working behind the scenes about this issue after gaining a temporary
UN Security Council membership.
England, France, USA, Russia and China have veto powers in the United
Nations. In recent years, Germany and Japan also try to be included
in this group. In order to include a sixth country who will have the
veto right, the UN Convention should be changed. Experts believe this
effort requires diplomatic lobbying for a long time.
