Yerkrapah Union of Volunteers (YUV) held its recurrent meeting today.
The YUV Board elected a new staff and president, considered the report
on the Union's activity ever since 2006 and adopted a statement.
"The Yerkrapah Union of Volunteers is not a political structure. From
the very first day of formation it has been the soldier of the state
and people," YUV statement reads. It states also that the Union stands
against linking the Armenian-Turkish relations to the Karabakh issue.
Supporting the establishment of diplomatic relations with Turkey
and opening of the shared border, the Union declares that it should
not happen at the cost of refusal from national dignity and genocide
recognition.
Manvel Grigoryan was reelected to the post of President of the YUV
Board. In his speech he called on all Armenians to unite.
"Today we need to unite to be able to resist the existing challenges.
We need to unite to avoid the reoccurrence of October 27 and March 1,"
he said.
The sitting was attended by the Defense Ministers of Armenia and
Nagorno Karabakh, the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Taron Margaryan, the
Mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia
Party Gagik Tsarukyan, Chairman of the Control Chamber Ishkhan
Zakaryan, leader of the People's Party Tigran Karapetyan, leader of
the "Republic" opposition party Aram Sargsyan.
