Head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies
Richard Kirakosyan, on February 24, dwelt on the discussion of the
Armenian genocide resolution in the U.S. Congress scheduled on March 4.
He said that the reason which enhanced the importance of the issue
is connected with Turkey. He says after signing the Armenian and
Turkish protocols, Turkey is playing games with Armenia and with the
international society, but this is the only issue where Russians,
the U.S. and Europe agree and have expectations only from Turkey.
According to him, Armenia cannot say anything else and does not have
to do anything else. If Turkey loses the opportunity, it will have
to pay a high price, says Richard Kirakosyan.
The main examination for Armenia is to see what this price will be.
Kirakosyan says that even if the Armenian government succeeds in
connection with the protocols, it will mean nothing for the solution
of our home problems. And if Turkey opens the border and sends an
envoy to Armenia, it is not to be awarded, as it is normal process,
says Kirakosyan.
He says that being an Armenian from the U.S. he is not waiting for
the Congress to say whether the genocide happened or not. The real
arena is that Turkey has to acknowledge it. At the same time, he
said that the discussion of the genocide at the U.S. Congress means
nothing else but discussion of the American-Turkish relations.
