YEREVAN, February 24, /ARKA/. The volume of renewable electrical power
produced in Armenia more than doubled last year to 300 million KWh,
a deputy energy and natural resources minister Areg Galstian told
the parliament today.
He said the government-designed plan to boost renewable energy
is supported by Armenia's international partners, particularly,
by German KfW bank that provides financing for such projects.
Last year Armenia's nuclear power plant produced almost 2.5 billion
KWh of power, by 1.3% more than in 2008. The volume of electrical
power produced by thermal power plants dropped last year by 38.4%
if compared to the preceding year, to 1.1 billion KWh.
Hydropower plants produced a little over 2 billion KWH power, by 12.4%
more than in 2008. Armenia's sole windmill produced 4.3 million KWh
power, by 2.3 times more than in 2008.
