Mahammad Bagir Bahrami Tehran has begun to help find a solution to
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan
said today.
"Iran has started to assist in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict. The issue of Iran's assistance in finding a settlement to
the conflict was discussed during Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar
Mammadyarov's visit to Iran with the agreement of President Ilham
Aliyev," Mohammad Baqer Bahrami told a press conference in Baku.
He did not give details of the form Iran's assistance is taking.
The ambassador said that as an important country in the region Iran
could offer its help. He said that the OSCE Minsk Group mediating
a settlement to the conflict had been established 18 years ago,
and either did not want or were unable to achieve their ojective.
"Anyway, this issue has not been solved. Azerbaijani and Iranian
officials said that mediators seek their own benefit, not the solution
to the problem. Iran wants to find a fair solution to the conflict by
using its potential. Iran wants the occupied Azerbaijani territories
to be released," he said.
The ambassador said a new stage had begun in the region.
"The sooner security is restored, the sooner the region will develop,"
he said.
